Dressing Functionally as a Nanny
In many professions you would expect your typical business suit, business casual, pencil skirts..etc. But, how would a Nanny dress professionally yet still be able function within a very active on the go job setting? We have compiled a few quick tips on how to feel comfortable, yet polished on the job site.
Invest in jeans you can dress up or down
Having a reliable, properly fit pair of jeans is always key within the nanny world. In the morning you can run errands, play at the park, and take the kids to their activities with a basic shirt and sneakers. In the evening you can dress it up slightly with a nice blouse and flats if your job has you attending an event or dinner. Stick to darker denim, as you can not see stains as easily. It helps you look more polished on a longer day.
Basic tees and button downs
Basic is best when it comes to the top half of your outfit. We recommend stocking up on basic tees and button downs. You can wear a tee in the morning, and switch to a button down in the eve if you are required to attend an event. You can also layer them on chilly days.
Keep a rain jacket handy
You never know when you might get caught in a rain storm. All nannies know that our hands are usually full, umbrellas just aren't an option. Get a nice rain jacket to keep you dry when taking kids to different activities during the day.
Wear the most comfortable shoes you have
We all love to dress up and feel fancy in our high heels, however our stylish shoes have no place in the day to day of a nanny. You can wear sneakers for play dates, loafers when tending to house related responsibilities, and flats when you need to dress up.
Leave your dangly jewelry at home
The last thing you want is for a child to pull on your hoop earrings, or break a special necklace by tugging on it. Its best to leave your jewelry at home. If you love to wear something, we recommend sticking to studs and bangles.
